Welcome to the first issue of the 2014 calendar year, Volume 37, Issue 1 of Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies & Management. This issue focuses on a number of topics germane to policing including papers on community policing, license plate recognition, governance-based policing, firearm violence, organized crime, highway accident management, police chief leadership, police-public relations, and police discretion. In addition, there is also a methodological paper on base rates and several papers in this issue have a noticeable international element as well drawing on data from India and Guatemala.
