As manufacturing industry across the world witness metamorphosis of existing markets under the banner of globalization and liberalization, the individual manufacturing firms are being compelled to focus more and more on competitiveness to stay relevant in the frame of changing times. It, therefore, becomes imperative on their part to be in sync with the latest trends and developments surfacing in the domain of Operations Management. Responding to this need, a Special Issue titled “Advances in Operations Management Research for Manufacturing” has been conceptualized with the objective of publishing papers focussing on deployment of different qualitative and quantitative techniques aimed at improving performance of production and delivery processes in manufacturing industry. Initially, it was planned to restrict publication of only those articles which have been presented in third International Conference on Production and Industrial Engineering (CPIE 2013). However, to maintain the quality of Special Issue, researchers who could not participate in CPIE 2013 were also encouraged to submit their papers, within the scope of this Special Issue. The current Special Issue features contributions from industry and academia, on a plethora of subjects, namely supply chain management, green supply chain management, application of MCDM techniques and knowledge management.
The Conference on Production and Industrial Engineering (CPIE) Conference Series, from which this Special Issue has been derived, was started by the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, Dr B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar (India), in March 2007. CPIE 2013 (March 29-31, 2013) was the third conference which attracted renowned academicians/researchers, noted industry representatives and the delegates from all across the globe. In all, about 225 papers were presented on various aspects of latest issues related to Industrial and Production Engineering.
The Editors would like to acknowledge the efforts of Dr David Bennett and Professor Harm-Jan Steenhuis, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, Emerald Publishers for their valuable inputs and expertise-based support throughout the preparation of this Special Issue.
Last but not the least, we would like to express our gratitude toward all the authors for contributing their much-valued papers to this issue, and the reviewers for their pain staking and time-consuming effort in reviewing manuscripts and providing their worthy evaluations.
