At present, the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic is still spreading all over the world, and its impact on the world economy is also continuing and deepening. The isolation and anti-epidemic of various countries directly led to the weakening of demand, the shutdown of factories, the interruption of industrial chain and the “freezing” of economic activities in a large area, facing the most serious crisis since the great depression in 1930.

However, under the gloomy economy, intelligent manufacturing and special equipment play an important role in the process of epidemic prevention and control, with bright spots appearing frequently. Under the support of intelligent manufacturing system, such as automatic workshop, intelligent factory and flexible production, a large number of enterprises quickly resume their work and production. Intelligent manufacturing not only plays an important role in the relief of production lines conversion, raw material supply interruption and industrial chain block but also provides more integrated application scenarios for supporting technologies of intelligent manufacturing such as artificial intelligence, industrial Internet, big data, robot, cloud computing and virtual reality/augmented reality.

Although the effect of the epidemic situation is significant, the early related research of intelligent manufacturing mainly focuses on the method and design details, lacking of overall planning and overall cognition, which is the biggest criticism on the road of intelligent manufacturing practice. Therefore, innovating scientific research paradigm, strengthening technology integration and application and expanding manufacturing industry space are the focus of intelligent manufacturing and special equipment research in the post epidemic period, which is of great significance to effectively promote intelligent manufacturing after epidemic.

JIMSE will not only introduce the high-quality and influential research work in the field of intelligent manufacturing, especially the cutting-edge progresses in the design, analysis, manufacturing, operation and system research of intelligent manufacturing and special equipment but also jointly think with you on how to expand “intelligence”, surpass “manufacturing” and further expand the industrial space of manufacturing industry.
