Climate change, pandemics and ethical issues around the vaccine manufacturing, wars and mass migrations – all these and many other global health challenges and threats could be confronted only by collaborative efforts of international community. In such a permanent crisis, countries need the ability to coordinate actions, share information and allocate resources effectively to support the resilience of healthcare. International Journal of Health Governance (IJHG) contributes to sharing research and experience from around the globe and providing an understanding of health governance that is both practical and actionable for healthcare practitioners, managers and policy makers. Publishing in IJHG provides authors, from a wide range of health specialities and related fields in countries across the world, with an opportunity to share their investigations and insights with international colleagues.
Thanks to our authors, the journal’s focus on diversity was pursued this year by publishing different types of articles, covering different countries of research and a great variety of topics. Published articles presented research from 26 countries (Figure 1), and covered all eight dimensions (sub-functions) of health governance (Barbazza and Tello, 2014), with the majority investigating tools and mechanisms used to enable the following four sub-functions: Organizational adequacy/System design; Formulating policy/Strategic direction; Participation and Consensus; and Regulation (Figure 2). A Special Section of Vol.27 Issue 2 was devoted to the Nordic model of health and health governance (Münter et al., 2022).
Emerald Group Publishing provides supportive guidance and award recognition for research and writers at all levels of experience. Emerald Literati Awards celebrate and reward the outstanding contributions of authors and reviewers (https://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/about/our-awards/emerald-literati-awards). 2022 Literati Award winner for an Outstanding Paper, published by the IJGH, is the research on managers’ role in supporting resilience in healthcare (Ree et al., 2021).
Members of our Editorial Advisory Board helped to shape the journal’s new aim and scope, and promoted it in professional networks. Many other professionals who contributed to journal growth were volunteer peer-reviewers, who generously shared their time and expertise to conduct blinded reviews of submitted manuscripts. Our 2022 Literati Award for Outstanding Reviewers winners are: Dr. Ellinor Tengelin (University West, Sweden), Professor Martin Powell (University of Birmingham, the UK) and Dr. Ian Callanan (St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Ireland).
While we welcome all manuscripts that fit within this journal’s focus and scope, we particularly want to encourage submissions related to priority topics and types of publications identified by our Editorial Advisory Board for 2023:
Fundamentals of health governance (conceptual papers and viewpoints)
Digital health governance and integration in mixed health systems
Innovations in mental health services access and delivery
Governance and mobility of health care workforce
New metrics for measuring health systems quality, outcomes and impact
As always, we are happy to receive correspondence from the potential authors who would like advice on whether what they propose would be suitable for publication in the IJHG. We also appreciate correspondence from subscribers who would like to suggest additional topics they feel we should cover.
