Remaining alert in the cockpit
Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 46, Issue 3
CM Group, which specializes in the design and creation of advanced learning for large international organizations, is working with sleep scientists to understand and manage fatigue and sleep loss and their impact on staff performance in the aviation industry.
Fatigue Risk Management Science Limited (FRMSc) improves staff and business performance through the management of occupational alertness. FRMScs system for aircrew-fatigue evaluation and its cabin-crew alertness and rest-evaluation program have been adopted by airlines to measure and evaluate factors that may affect an employees alertness and capability.
CM Group was selected to develop the software and the associated e-learning product training. Using FRMScs mathematical algorithms, CM Groups software-development team designed and built the new cloud-based program that enables airlines to upload their flight rosters, returning the potential fatigue-risk areas for each individual member of staff, including pilots.
Tim Buff, CM Groups chief executive, said: "We see the system for aircrew fatigue evaluation as a highly innovative and valuable addition to airline safety. Our software-development teams relished the challenge of creating the technical solution and accompanying training resources."
