Cocksedge builds a qualified workforce

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 46, Issue 3

A UK builder is ensuring that employees and customers alike are up to date with the latest legislation and procedures.

Cocksedge Building Contractors Ltd, which works closely with C&C Training, has started to provide an average of more than ten tailored courses a year.

Tim Parker, the company’s health, safety and environment adviser, commented: "When we go to tender interviews we take a list of all the training courses we have undertaken and our accreditations to demonstrate that we take things seriously when it comes to health and safety."

He continued: "The training we need covers such a wide range of areas, from scaffolding through to site management. Not only could C&C Training offer the necessary breadth of courses but it has also gone out of its way to help me to merge the courses so that our staff and sub-contractors get exactly the skills they need to do their job optimally and safely.

"At the beginning of the year we lay out the schedule of courses together and then the planning is largely out of my hands. What I was bringing into the company with C&C was a team that could set up training for the whole year, freeing my time to analyze our health and safety performance, identify areas for improvement and ensure that we remain compliant."
