Training-administration system powers ahead

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 46, Issue 3

One of Britain’s largest energy firms has selected a new training-administration system to drive efficiency and reduce costs.

ScottishPower Training is continually looking for ways to make it easier for key contractors to support the business. This includes training and certifying many thousands of contractors who help to maintain and develop the electricity network for its customers.

The training-administration system will help ScottishPower to keep on top of training of external contractors to support its achievements of skilling up, facilitating assessment and awarding authorizations to work in certain areas.

ScottishPower’s old system served the energy company sufficiently in terms of booking delegates on to training courses, but the ScottishPower Training team had to supplement its operation with manual processes.

Colin Cruickshank, project manager, said: "We required an off-the-shelf functionally rich training administration system that was value for money, simple to use and had the ability to interface with our other systems and processes. The vendor we chose, Enterprise Study, was strategic in line with our future plans. For example, it offered further modules such as e-learning and compliance management."

Familiarization sessions have been delivered to the contractor organizations who are particularly impressed with the ease of use the new system provides. The system enables reports to be easily downloaded and automatically scheduled for running. The profit-and-loss feature helps to keep track of all financial transactions that are supported by a comprehensive audit, so that at any time it is possible to identify who has done what.

As well as providing an assessment-manager module the platform has a comprehensive event-evaluation tool.
