BT connects worldwide workforce with business-English courses

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 46, Issue 2

Telecommunications company BT Group plc has reached a long-term agreement with GlobalEnglish to provide business-English for the company’s worldwide workforce.

BT will empower non-native-English-speaking employees by providing on-demand access to a suite of business-English learning tools. They will furnish formal and informal business-English learning – including virtual, blended learning – plus instant on-the-job support for business tasks in English, adaptive business-English assessments and the ability to measure usage and proficiency improvements across the company.

BT developed a business case for implementing the courses worldwide following a successful pilot program in 18 countries across Europe, Asia and Latin America. During the pilot, 91 percent of BT employees said they would be likely to recommend the service to a friend or colleague and 89 percent agreed that the courses were relevant to their job.

By using a single, consistent, scalable and measurable solution worldwide, BT believes it can achieve significant efficiencies and service improvements.

“Effective communication with our clients and business partners is critical to our operations, especially in emerging markets,” said Julie Bellani, chief HR officer, BT Global Services. “Empowering our employees with these tools enables us to deliver a consistent experience for our business partners while improving customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.”

“As a truly global communication company serving customers in more than 170 countries, BT recognizes the importance of ensuring that its worldwide workforce has the necessary business-English communication skills to achieve the productivity and operational proficiency demanded in today’s global marketplace,” said Julian Wragg, GlobalEnglish regional vice-president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “We are delighted that BT has selected GlobalEnglish as its global partner to implement an enterprise-wide program that will increase collaboration and drive competitive advantage.”
