A successful series of conferences, namely, Numerical Methods for Thermal Problems and Numerical Methods for Laminar and Turbulent Flow were initiated by Professor Cedric Taylor and myself in the early 1980s. These “back-to-back” conferences attracted many scientists, mathematicians and engineers from all over the world. The many excellent papers were published in the conference proceedings and the best of these were later expanded and eventually appeared in archival journals.
This led us to start a new journal, i.e. the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Heat and Fluid Flow in 1990. This has proven to be an ideal platform for the publication of the plethora of archival manuscripts in this field of research. Indeed, the original conferences are still ongoing under the aegis of the Thermacomp conferences, which publish their plenary and invited lectures in this journal.
This led me to think of commemorating the 25 years of the journal by inviting the Editorial Board of HFF to contribute their research to a dedicated special issue. I am sure that these manuscripts, by the most eminent of researchers, will prove to be of archival value.
