Missing links: the quest for better search tools
Abstract
Current search tools exhibit a number of significant weaknesses. Users have difficulty constructing the sophisticated queries needed for effective retrieval. Massive retrievals make it difficult to arrange results in meaningful ways. Specific types of documents are difficult to isolate. User interfaces are often less than intuitive. This article looks at a selection of innovative search tools that attempt to solve specific problems in searching.
