Abstract

A new off‐line measuring technique using standard video and PC technology has been described. The image of the object to be qualified or measured is illuminated, digitalized by a video camera and transferred into a computer which is performing the data evaluation. This task can be according to customers’ internal specifications, or according to international standards like IEC, AEIC or ASTM, respectively. Discusses three examples from the cable and wire industry: the fully automatic measurement of cable insulation, woven wire cloth and felting needles. The main advantages of this automized measuring procedure are its speed, repeatability and its high reliability.
