On reading: consumer advice in the library

Purpose
This paper seeks to reflect on an earlier paper “Consumer advice in the library”, by Gordon Wainwright, Library Review, Winter 1966.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper pursues a reflective viewpoint.
Findings
The original paper was possibly ahead of its time in some ways in its thoughts about public libraries.
Practical implications
The paper discusses viewpoints from 40 years ago and compares them with contemporary practice.
Originality/value
The paper compares past with contemporary thinking about the role of public libraries.
